How to use this chart
- Use this chart one day at a time, not a week. It suits the hour after school, when the steps are in a different order on different days and you want the list in front of the child.
- Order the steps so the demanding one comes after the snack and a short break rather than straight through the door. Most children want to eat and move before they sit down to homework.
- The second box is for a grown-up to check a step, such as looking at the finished homework. If you do not need it, ignore it, or simply tick it when you say good job.
- Write the day's fixed commitments in the note line, such as a club or a lesson, so the rest of the list is planned around it.
- Print the page in batches of five and keep the pile by the door. Each day the top sheet goes on the table, and the finished one goes in a folder if you want to look back.
Questions
Is there a version for the whole week?
Not on this page. For week-long ticking use the weekly chore chart for kids or the morning routine chart, which have a column for each day.
Why is there a grown-up check column?
Some steps, such as homework, are finished only when someone has glanced at them. The column makes that a written step rather than a question at the table.
How many steps can I add?
Up to ten. The boxes stay large enough to tick on a normal sheet of Letter or A4.
Can I use it for the morning?
You can, by changing the title and the steps, but the morning routine chart has day columns and a time column that suit it better.
