How to use this chart
- Start with three to five chores a child can finish without help. A chart with ten rows that nobody completes teaches less than a chart with four that is finished every day.
- Write the chores as actions with an end, such as put dirty clothes in the hamper, rather than a general instruction such as be tidy. The child should be able to see when a chore is done.
- Pin the chart at the child's eye level near where the chores happen, and keep a pen or a pack of stickers next to it so ticking takes five seconds.
- Use the days setting to match your week: Monday to Friday for school weeks, or Saturday and Sunday only if the chores belong to the weekend.
- Fill in the reward line only if you want one. Say what the reward is and how many ticks it takes before the week starts, so the end of the week is a plain count and not a negotiation.
Questions
How many chores should a weekly chart have?
The chart takes up to ten rows, but most families get on better with three to six. Start small, and add a row when the first ones have become routine.
Can I print it on A4 instead of Letter?
Yes. Change the paper size under Paper and ink and the preview and the print page switch to A4. The chart stays on one landscape sheet either way.
Can I use it for more than one child?
Print one sheet per child with the name filled in, or use the siblings chart to put two or three children on the same page.
How do I save it as a PDF?
Press Print or save as PDF, then pick Save as PDF as the destination in the print dialog. Only the chart is included.
