How to use this chart
- Give each child a card, or print four and let the family share them. The squares are small kind acts that cost nothing, so a card can be filled during a normal week.
- Write acts that can be seen and ticked, such as share a snack, instead of qualities such as be kind. Children can tick a deed more easily than an attitude.
- Make the first card easy with a three by three grid so that it finishes. Larger grids are better once the children have done one.
- Turn the free space on for odd sizes if you want a square that is already done. Leave it off so that every square is an act.
- Look at the cards together at the end of the week and let each child tell one story from a ticked square. The conversation is the part that makes the game worth the paper.
Questions
Is there a prize?
That is up to you. Many families give the cards a modest end: a family walk, a favourite meal, or just reading the squares aloud.
Can I use my own kind acts?
Yes, edit the list. One per line, up to sixty. The page deals cards from the list you type.
How different are the four cards?
Each card is shuffled separately from the list, so the same acts appear in different places. With a longer list the cards share fewer squares.
What if a child cannot do a square?
Remove it from the list or write an easier one. The list is yours, and you can print as many different sets as you like.
